Nordic IT-company with a need to improve the current PMO operational model

Imagine one team with the focus set on the same goal. At the same time, imagine the same team trying to reach the goal, but in separate business lines with their own goals. Apply the scenario to an IT project and we´re facing a situation where “the drain plug” might leak out assets like money and time.

Challenge

Gunilla Marno, an experienced project management professional from Wiima Partners was introduced to an IT project management organization, which was fragmented into different business lines with no common project management operational model.

Let´s take some notes

Current situation was first analyzed together with the customers stakeholders, benefiting also from comprehensive interviews with the project managers and key stakeholders to get a clear picture which areas needed attention. Project management model, tools and templates were also thoroughly inspected.

Navigating forward

Gunilla did not only apply her long expertise from the field, but also used the vetted project management framework to plan the new PMO operational model. To make sure the new model would last time and keep it durable also for future needs, it was built in co-operation with the customer´s PMO team and key stake holders.

The solution

In brief, the end result was all about bringing the pieces back together. New common PMO operational was developed, and the new action plan helped to navigate the next steps for implementation. 

“Gunilla`s framework”  of the PMO analyze is flexible also and adaptable to several needs. The customer has already started to utilize framework for other business areas within the company.
